Beret dated 1943 made by British Beret Basque Ltd. The 2nd Battalion were part of the 1st Air Landing Brigade 1st Airborne Division. Took part in the Pegasus Bridge Operation as Glider Troops in June 1944. Also served in the Ardennes as part of the Gliderborne Air Assault known as Operation Varsity, the largest airborne operation in the history of warfare, and also in Operation Plunder the crossing of the Rhine. Half of the 800 strength battalion were killed or wounded. The 1st Battalion were part of the BEF and later took part in the Battle for Normandy and into Belgium. A wonderful regiment
